Anyone use these regularly? If so, which do you prefer? I've read that MB recommends using gas containing additives (Chevron) but not to use extra additives that you put in the tank yourself.

I've used STP (black bottle) in my truck for years with no problems, and in other cars too. I haven't added anything to the MB other than gas. Just wondering what you guys think about additives.

Top Tier Gasoline

I'll add a 12oz. bottle of Techron about every 2,000 miles for good measure.

+1 for Chevron's Techron. I add the large bottle to a full tank (treats up to 20 gallons) every 3000 miles as they recommend. I also use Chevron fuel exclusively.

i've used Redline S1 Fuel System cleaner (once in a while).

but for a good clean, these cleaners wont cut it. you either need to use "Seafoam" or Subaru Upper engine cleaner (effectivly the same ingredients as Seafoam). (search "Seafoam" on youtube to see it in action).

warm engine to opperating temp. switch off. spray half a can into the plenum/intake mainfold via a vacuum hose. wait 10min, start car keep the revs up so it wont stall and spray the other half in. wait another 10min.

start the car and rev it a bit to clear up the smoke. note that a LOT of smoke will be produced when i started mine 2-3 good black puffs of soot came out then a fair bit of thick white smoke as the cleaner was being burned up.

makes a difference? yes especialy with idle. you can bearly tell the car is on. while doing this note a few codes maybe thrown....... i got p0300 & p0304 (cylinder missfire codes) which is fine.... reset them and away you go.

I use Regane by Gumout every 5K.

Works well.

I haven't used seafoam on the SLK but I have used it on my other cars. It's amazing stuff but holy hell does it ever smoke. You have no idea. And it doesn't stop either. It smokes for like 10 minutes at idle. It's fun. And the car runs great afterwards, at least in my experience.

Interesting link on Top Tier gas retailers. Of course the two I use the most - Sunoco and Hess, are not on the list. Just my luck. Will have to find Chevron and the other Top Tier.

I use Lucas fuel treatment and redline products in the SLK, my Nissan Truck and the Harley. Seems like the Lucas works a bit better and Wal-mart has it most of the time.
