Got myself an AMG steering wheel today.
Here hoe I fitted it. This will help others who want to remove and refit steering wheel in the future.

Remove neg battery lead.
Put steering wheel in straight ahead position.
Remove keys from ignition.
Undo the 2 T27 screws from behind airbag "TIGHT"
I had to use a lever on T27 to 'crack' undone.
Lift airbag away from wheel centre.
Squeeze clips and remove to spade terminals from horn connections.
Carefully pull off Yellow Airbag Connector.
Place airbag face up in a safe place in the shed.
Remembering where horn leads are routed thru wheel centre ring thread them back into middle void.
Undo 10mm hex screw in centre of wheel "TIGHT"
Needed to use a 18" bar to crack loose.
ALWAYS do these sort of jobs whereby you push down away from windshield etc.
I used my knees and the steering lock to hold wheel whilst I 'cracked' the tight screw.
Screw cap screw back on by hand a couple of turns and bang wheel from behind with palms of hands to loosen.
Remove screw fully and remove steering wheel threading wires carefully thru rectangular hole in boss.
DO NOT fiddle with the round black clock spring assy unless you are going further.
Replace steering wheel ensuring mark on threaded column matches arrow on wheel boss and wires run thru correct hole on hub.
Tighten cap screw tight with a normal hand ratchet.
Feed horn wires thru centre ring, connect horn and yellow airbag connectors.
Place airbag into steering wheel and wind 2 torx screws back in hand tight. Nip up when bag pulled in square.

Replace neg batt term.
Insert keys and check wheel is fitted correctly.

ROFL Big tough guy like you Berk lol

Ive got kangaroo skin gloves that would work good :)

Seriously, you would have to have leather cover removed, elements recessed into urethane core, wires wouldnt be an issue if you used a coily wire like the race and rally cars use from column.
If you can get a heated wheel from another MB it might fit. Many wheels are common to the range.
2 sorts of airbag shape for about 6 years.

i would trade my heated seats for a heated wheel anytime, its winter up here buddy! sounds like a bog, but i thought it would at least be possible to run the wires down the steering shaft rather than the coily cord thing. i think the slk has about a 4 turn steering anyway so that would be stretching it!

The wires for the airbag and horn go into a clock spring multi enclosure similar to external coily. You may be able to get one off a later vehicle with extra wires for the multfunction buttons that could be used for a heater?

well since i have no idea how to remove and replace a leather wrap wheel i guess i will just wait until i see a sl heated wheel and try to retro it. too bad, since i run the top down any time the rain is off, regardless of temp. and driving gloves are kinda gay,.,......
btw why did you swap that wheel anyway>?

do you think it would be possible to pack some heater elements near the bolt/rivet locations inside the front and simply have it conduct the heat out to the wheel? i wouldnt mind if it was only heated ina few places, my hands would just be there. only downside to theis is it may over heat the airbag. is the airbag compartment the same on both your wheels?
