Check Engine light has been on for about 6months I have been driving it and there are no preformance issues and it has been running fine. However inspection is due this month and it wont pass because of this. I pulled the codes and these are what came up.... P0131 P0171 P0130 P0132 and P0135 any idea what these mean or why it would have came on? Help would def. be appriciated. Thanks!!
My guess is the oxygen sensor is bad. The easiest thing to try first would be to replace the oxygen sensor on Bank 1 (whichever one that is). After that, disconnect the battery to reset the OBD (or use the OBD code reader). Just remember that the OBD will fail even with the light off if you reset it immediately before the test. Good luck!
I hope thats all it is 02 sensor isnt bad at all... I was worried it would be something major with that many codes. I will have the 02 sensor replaced this week hopfully that will take care of it. Thanks for the help and putting my mind at ease... =)
You're welcome. The OBD system is really a good solution to emissions restrictions. The computer monitors the function of all of the components of the emission control system. If there is a malfunction in any component, the "check engine" or Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) lights. It would be nice if there was a readout that let you know why the MIL lit up but I suppose most people wouldn't know what to do about it anyway. The system really should be serviced by a trained and qualified techinician. Most times, it is a pretty simple problem.
My cousin has a Toyota and she called me one day when her MIL came on. I hooked up my scannner and pulled the code. It turned out that the code that set the MIL related to the evaporative emissions control system. The fix was tightening the gas cap and resetting the OBD!
In your case, you probably just have a bad oxygen sensor. They fail pretty regularly. I doubt that there is anything more wrong with it than that. The law of Occam's razor applies here. The most likely answer is probably the simplest.
O2 Sensor fixed the check engine light and I am now inspected... I also needed front ball joints but I have a hook up at a AUDI dealership they did everything for under $600.... Is it normal for the ball joints to need replaced at around 50k?
It would seem odd to me that at 50K miles you need ball joints when ours has twice that many miles and doesn't. On the otherhand, you drive in the northeast were the roads may not be as smooth as So Cal freeways. Ball joints are not good to mess with, if it truly needs them, get them replaced because the wheel can colapse and even fall off. You can check by trying to move the top of the tire in and out by hand and see if there's play, there shouldn't be any.

You should come visit Chicago - our roads looks like they were bombed.
