I had a long talk with Kleemann yesterday and will be visiting them next week to drive a couple of their demos and see their shop.
They do not seem very interested in tweaking the SLK32/C32 motors which I find interesting. They seems to feel that there is not enough headroom in the motor to do it without impact reliability. I have to think that there is some other reason as they are doing the SL55 to the tune of 606HP and obviously Renntech with their AMG roots should know that motor better than anyone.
Anyway, they have a suspension based on the Penske shocks developed for the IRL. As I understand them, they run at a one damping level when driving in a straight line but when you toss the car into a corner, the damping starts to raise in four different levels dependant upon lateral G load. The spring rates are also changed to a different progressive rate spring.
THe suspension is said to be a joy to drive hard and make a large difference. Not cheap though at $2100 but may be worth it.
My major complaint with the 32 is that when I threshold brake from very high speeds(well over 100MPH), the back of the car squirms around and becomes unsettled. I had thought that this was a byprodcut of the short wheel base or brake bias but they claim it is in the suspension setup and that their suspension cures the problem.
Anyone heard of anyoneputting thios suspension in their SLK? I know the shocks work great in other applications as a lot of guys out here are using them on their race cars.
