SLK 230 Kompressor What does it mean?

I purchased a 2004 "Limited Edition" 230 Kompressor for my wife recently. I am trying to understand the significance of the Kompressor, and also Limited edition. I am not having much luck surfing. A salesperson (MB) mentioned that the Kompressor was a good thing. I don't know why. Also is the silver "Limited Edition" a special thing or just a badge? I am sure there are folks that can help me understand on this forum. Thanks in advance.

"Kompressor" refers to the fact that the engine is supercharged. The Limited Edition was a special issue for the final year of the R170.

Thanks for the reply. Can you guide me to any sites that describe these features? MBUSA was not much help.

Thanks - I guess it is a supercharger vs. a turbo - charger. There is surprising little I have been able to find. We had a MGTF and I found quite a lot about it. I may be expecting too much.

Useless car salesman. Sheesh.

All SLK230's have a supercharged 4-cylinder engine. The SLK320 has a non-supercharged V6. And the SLK32 has a supercharged V6.

Here's plenty of info: Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Check this link:

mbslk.de translated with babelfish

If you see on the left side of the page, i bit down, you will see "Series R170", there you can read about all the different SLK r170 models (r170/w170 is the chassis on the slk form 1996 to 2004)

The mbslk.de website does not have any info on the "limited" ediction because it wasn't offered in Germany.
The model was only available for the 2000 model year and had a special gear shift knob, floor mats, polished stainless steel exhaust tip, 6-CD changer and phone cradle/prep, special badging & wheels. Technically, the car is identical to the standard 230 SLKs otherwise incl. the supercharger aka Kompressor.
