Hello, I have a 2000 Slk-230. Recently the car has been blowing warm, then cold air. It will blow warm air for a while, then the fans gear up and it starts to blow cold air. Is there a problem with my air conditioner?
Turn the AC off with the EC button. The button light should come on. With the engine running, carefully observe the pulley on the compressor. Notice the front of the pulley is not spinning. You should be able to see the boldts. Now push the EC button to turn on the AC. Repeat observing the pulley. The front portion should now be spinning.
The temp sensor is located behind the radio. The radio, AC control unit, etc have to be removed to find it behind some insulation. Not that hard a project but if you have a factory MB radio, make sure you have the securtiy code before attempting to remove the radio.
There are other switches and sensors which can cause your problem. This is just a start.
When I push the EC button, it seems to do the opposite. It blows warm air when on. What does the EC button do?
Turns off the AC compressor when the little light is lit, EC is short for Economy and it gets you better gas mileage because the engine doesn't have to work as hard without the AC on.
PS- the hvac on these cars are a bit finicky i find... mine screws up at random, like stays on for no reason when the car is on... or right now half of the lights are not lighting up at night... I reset it every now and then by pulling the fuses and it generally works right again
