Which would be more reliable and long term problem free...an SLK320 or and SLK32?
The reason I ask this and it may be too soon because not enough years have gone by to compare the two to this type of a question...But in general I have understood in most cases the faster supercharged models (in any car) end up being less reliable and more costly to maintain because they are stressed for greater performance (in other words like comparing a turbo to a non-turbo). Most people would say that you would be wiser to get the lesser of the two evils especially if you intend to own the car for a long period of time...or better yet do you think in ten years an AMG would still out perform a 320 if the same maintenance budget is allowed for both cars? Or who cares right? Most Benz owners are typical of trading in their old ones for new ones because they have the money to burn...[:D]
out of warranty. I recently picked my 32 up and love it and while the SLK320 is a wonderful automobile, it is not an AMG car. If you want a wild machine, buy the 32. If you want one of the best roadsters made but don't want to bend the horizon, buy a 320.
The 32 is most certainly going to be less reliable both long and short term but Mercedes tends to build a reliable product even in their performance model so I wouldn't be too concerned. Honestly, the vario-roof scares me(in terms of reliability) more than any AMG component on the 32 and it is a well proven technology. There is also the option of an extended warranty which you can get a reasonabnle deal on before the factory warranty expires. This will cost a bit but can be worth it! My C36 AMG had a warranty gold extended plan that covered the car bumper to bumper with no deductible out to 9 years and a total of 100K miles. THis cost me about $1700 and they were as easy to deal with as the factory warranty. I had actually purchased the warranty for resale and only kept the car for one year past the factory warranty so it really didn't pay off as the car only needed about $500-600 worth of repaires but if I had kept it...you do the math!

Engine wise, the 320 should be more reliable. It only consumes as much air as it needs/can handle where as the '32 is being force fed. I think it'll have long-term ramifications.

A lot of people don't like to deal with a car off of warranty. Some people just don't have the time. I doubt the '32 will sit in out garage for longer than 5 years.
