Hey,
I don't know if it was vandalism or attempted theft, or whatever, but my antenna, base and all is no longer on my car ;_; I went to the dealer and ordered a new base and mast. I got the parts the other day, there is the black base, with the antenna cable comming off it, the mast that screws onto the base, and a silver plate with a hole in it that goes on the inside of the firewall. I looked at it only for a minute when I picked it up to make sure everything is there, but I'm a little confused as to how this mounts to the car. Is it just pressure fitted to the body? I dont see anything that really screws the base to the car from inside the fender. Also what is that backing plate, and whats its purpose? Is it only to keep the body from bending under the pressure of the base? Also it seems to mount with double sided tape, I assume the origional plate is still stuck to the inside of my fender, is it reusable, or should I just pull it off and use the new one. I really don't feel like paying the dealer $150 to put this on. I'm fairly handy, and this looks like it should be the easiest thing in the world, I just cant help but feel something is missing.
Thanks in advance.
Jason
Take what you need from this. It is an old post of mine.
Read before you start
Go slow, take your time.
1 Remove the antenna mast by unscrewing it.
Remember "Lefty Loosey Righty Tighty".
2 Then take the 10 mm wrench from the tool kit and turn the silver nut under the threads that held on the mast.
Be careful and go slow there is not enough room to turn the wrench all the way around it will bind up and scratch the fender.
3 Remove the nut. Gently lift off the black base, careful not to jerk it or scratch the fender.
It will come off, the signal wire is attached to it.
4 Open the trunk.
5 Remove the plastic rivet holding the upper fuzzy panel at the trunk hinge.
6 Gently pull back the upper fuzzy panel only.
7 Shine a flash light in there to see what is in there.
The base backing plate will be stuck to the fender at the hole or it may have fallen down along the wire to the booster box where the wire is attached.
*CAUTION*
When you reach into the fender well to undo the wire there are very sharp edges in there that will cut your hand so go slowly. (a glove is too bulky)
8 Follow the wire to the box and gently push down on the connector and twist it about a quarter turn then gently pull up it will come off.
*CAUTION*
Do not let the base backing plate slide off of the wire and fall down into the fender, you will never reach it and it will rattle forever.
9 Gently remove the parts and watch your hand on the metal as you pull back.
10 Installation is the reverse.

My question is what is that 10mm nut holding the base to? Is there something that is supposed to be inside the fender?
Ok, from that picture, it seems that Im definately missing the "base" that goes inside the fender. Now to try to explain what I neeed to the parts guy...
Beleive me, dealing with this makes me envy all of you :P
The sad part of all of this is I don't even listen to the radio, I just need to fix it so I don't have a huge hole in my fender.
