Always a hard question as to if will work.

there are three types of elements in these things yours will be one of the later sensor type and the chances a small at a clean being effective.

It can be cleaned with any alcohol based solvents, In the UK we use IPA 170 by Servicsol

If you need a new one, go the your Bosch dealer where they are half the price of getting one from MB

Please fill out your profile. Answers will vary depending on the year of your car, and where you live. It's a big help!

For example, US/Canada owners would use CRC MAF Cleaner.

Check with Bazzle, I think he's written a procedure...

Pretty straight forward.

1. Remove MAF (torx screws).
2. Spray liberally with CRC MAF Cleaner - do not touch metal elements with fingers!
3. Let air dry, and/or shake dry (again, do not touch elements).
4. Replace (make sure it's dry first).
5. Open bottle of beer.
6. Consume contents.

Worked for me!

Here is a photo-guide for a V6:

Photo Guide

It's very easy -- especially if you follow TheJimbo's 5th and 6th steps as steps 1 -6.

You will need torx security/tamper proof bits. Use CRC MAF cleaner only!!!

To clean MAF.
Ign off.
Remove connector off MAF (squeeze tag and pull)
Either remove sensor only or remove whole housing.
To remove housing undo hose clamp and wiggle hose off.
Undo 2 overcentre clamps on housing and wiggle out of seat
To remove sensor remove 2 torx screws (may be 5 or 6 point scurity torx)
If you dont have a tool undo with small locking pliers and replace with normal self + head tapping screws to make later removal easy.
Spray liberally with maf or contact cleaner so it drips out with contaminants and shake dry. DO NOT use compressed air.
If housing removed now is a time to wipe out the oil film with a lint free rag.
Also remove oil seperator from top of engine and spary to clean it too if tubes oily.
Replace all parts. (smear of oil will help seat sensor and housing into their seats, ensure 'O' rings secure.
Start engine to ensure it idles and adapts.
If engine wont respond to accelerator try this..

Keys out
Start engine
Hold brake pedal down hard
Put in drive
Leave to idle for a minute
Put in park
see if engine responds to throttle pedal.

Cleaned mine, still rough idle.

Seems to be not much improvement- car has 83k, had plugs and air filter changed at 77k. Could this be the fuel filter?
