Tail Light Recall (pre facelift vs post facelift)

Yes, I did scroll the entire 17 page thread before posting...

I have a '99 SLK and upgraded the tail lights to the 01+ lights that have a "clear" look. When I took my car in for the recall, they said that they would only replace my 01+ lights with what came on the car ('99). Is there any way around this? Did everyone who changed their lights just go back to the older look? Thanks in advance.

I posted a while back about my dealer replacing my 01 lights with pre facelift, but then correcting the problem when I brought the car back, although unrelated to your question.

Unfortunately, unless you know someone at the dealership that you can nugde into hooking you up, I can see how they may be required only to give you the appropriate year lights. I can't see the facelift lights costing "that" much more, if any to produce, so maybe you can offer to cover the difference in cost?

MB has probably planned on manufacturing new tail lights for only the set amount of registered R170 vehicles currently on the road, and as a result can't start issuing the facelift lights to the non facelift OEM vehicles.

Tell them you Paid for the Post facelift so you should get the same.

I kept my old ones when I upgraded.

I put them back on when I went in for the recall.
Now I have a brand new set in the box.

I put the new bulb and socket in the face lifted set.

The face lifted set I purchased were in perfect condition, the boards were not burnt.

With the new bulbs and holders they work fine. No melted holders or boards yet.

Get a set off of e bay and give the dealer those.
