Bras?

Anyone have a nose bra on their SLK? If so, where'd you find it? I'm getting sick of having to fill in little pockmarks on my nose with touch-up paint.

I know there's the clear 3M stick-on ones (haven't totally made my mind up about those) but I'm also wondering about the more traditional "mask" ones. Any suggestions/thoughts?

The traditional bra can cause more problems.

Discoloration of the paint if left on too long.
Sand and dirt gets behind it and scratches the paint.
Flapping parts will scratch / wear the paint off.

If you use one take it off every 2-3 days and wash the area under it.
Rinse the bra and let it dry before putting it back on.

Take it off once a week for a day or two to let the paint get air.

Secure all flapping parts.

I have a Colgan Custom on my 2002 SLK, and had one on my 1998 SLK as well. They go on in about a minute, and come off faster then that. Put it on when you want to go somewhere or drive at speed, and they protect VERY well indeed.
Do they look good, hell no, but they're for travelling, not for leaving on forever.....
The older car's bra didn't have the spoiler on the hood part but still it was good for about 75 mph then it would start to flutter. The newer design is good for 150 mph with no flutter, and they should all have the spoiler on by now.
There are mirror bras available as well and they are worth the time and effort. They take about 2 seconds to put on and the same to take off.

That's what I'm thinking - I wash my car pretty much weekly so it wouldn't be a problem to take the thing off, keep clean underneath and then re-install regularly.

Not showing an R-170 as an option on Colgan's web site - only the newer R-171 SLK-280 & SLK-350. Where'd you find yours?

If you saw how chipped up front ends can get here in SoCal (due to gravel, road debris, terrible road maintenance, etc.) you'd understand.

Call them direct, my wife bought mine as a present direct from the factory. Could have bought it cheaper, but she didn't think of that. Mine is the carbon fiber look vinyl, it looks interesting.
Something else that helps the chipping problem is to stay back from the cars in front of you... I found that helps a lot......

I have an OEM bra that I mistakenly bought for my car only to discover that they come with or without openings for front license plates. This one is for a no front plate application and is part number Q 6 88 0024. It comes in the original case and has the instructions. Interested at $50 plus shipping? PM me if so.

BTW - New York is a front plate state...oh well. I bought this bra for trips where I am most likely to get rock chips.

Bummer, so is CA, and supposedly it's no longer a "fix it" ticket, they've now made it a moving violation.
