Electric side mirror problem / Seat Electronic problem
Hello all,
I am new at this forum so please bare with me. I am having some problems with my button for the side mirrors. One side kindda work and the other side does not. I asked a Mercedes dealer if we could jut replace the button, but they said that it was not a button problem, probably more of an electrical problem. Has anyone here experienced a similar problem? And what has been done? (and how if possible)
Also, both my seats (only) sometimes do not want to move when we press the buttons to move back/forward up/down -> has anyone experienced this problem and what has been done to fix this?
Any inputs will be of great help
I gotta say I love my SLK 320, but Mercedes do have a lot of Electrical issues they need to work on.
The electric mirror problems is probably the electric engine behind the mirror (a plate that the mirror sits on). Only way to test if that is the problem, take off both mirrors, and switch around the engines. If one is not working it's about 100$ for a new one. Easy to change.
remember that you do not have to remove the whole mirror, just the glass. There is a splint on top the glass when you tilt the glass all the way down. If the one motor is not working, just press the mirror down. It will not be broken.
The seat problem is most likely caused by a bad relay which supplies 12V to seats. I fixed mine last autumn. It is a black relay under the dashboard on left side. Replace the relay or open it and resolder the solder joints some of which have a tiny crack.
This is explained in another thread related to this subject, use the search function to find it if you need more details.
The problem with the seats could also simply be the connectors under the seats are not plugged in fully. After I replaced my seat heater I didn't get the connecter plugged in all the way and as it got loose it would make the seat intermittent until it finally fell out and it stopped all together. Probably unlikely that it would happen to both seats though, so maybe finntexan's relay is the problem.
I tried the suggestion above from finntexan and Myzt, but with no luck.
Regarding the Electronic mirror, I tilt it all the way down, and I can see the splint, but I do not know what to do after this. Do I release the splint and then pull down the mirror and this will not break the mirror???
Also, I could not find the relay for the Seats. I looked at the left side under the dash board, but there is nothing in there other than some wires. There was a similar place on the driver side on the right, but that had sort of the same setup. Then I tried to remove the parts under the steering to see if there was a relay under that, but I gave up as the whole darn thing is connected and there are just way to may screws holding it up. I then tried to look under the hood, but it was just as confusing.
After removing the splint, the mirror wil be able to remove. Start bending at the top. It's pretty easy getting it out, but if you've never done it before it's better to take some time beeing carefull, than breaking it . Just try the wiggle the mirror out.
