I have just fitted these lights in mine , re the vacuum leveling , I do not intend to attempt the mod suggested a few pages back.
Will the pipe need sealing ?
Yes, seal the pipe.
Just cut off ends an inch back and tape to old lights for storage (so you can re join connector later using a bit of rubber hose if req) and use a bit of hose with a ball bearing, screw etc stop off end of hose.
Note: USA models do not have the adj vac pipe.

Adj the screws with the arrows on them until pattern is like that in front of lights.
Drive back 20 feet.
Pattern should be in same vetical plane.
Horizontal lines should be min 4" lower and in line still

Can someone post some pics with lower beam turn on 2ft, and 25ft away from the wall? The vertical pattern for my car is high. Am I doing something wrong?

Hello all! First I would like to say that the information you all have put in this forum is just awesome! I have been reading in here for a few days getting all the information I can about changing my headlights on my 2002 SLK 230 with Projectors. Prior to me reading and joining this forum, I had purchased some clear headlights and have returned them thinking that they could not work for my car, which led me here.
I have done a lot of reading here, but I am still slightly confused about what wiring mods I need to do with my American SLK230. It seems the 2000 to 2002 American SLK's are slightly different that most of what had bene talked about. With all that said (sorry so winded) I am posting some pictures to show you what I have and hope one of you experts could help me with what I need to do. My current light is picture 006. Bosch stock. I have no idea what kind of light it is. (Xenon, etc...)
The lights I think I am going to purchase are HID 98-04 MERCEDES SLK R170 HALO PROJECTOR HEAD LIGHTS from an Ebay seller 4 Car Option (See 5th picture). They look the same as what SilverSlk had installed, BUT, I have an American 2002. Do I need both the harness (170 820 11 15) and the pin (008-545-53-26)?? As you can see in picture 008, I have a rectangular connector with only 3 pins. What other wire do I need to add to this connector?
I dont quite understand all the actual lights (lamps) in the headlight itself and which ones I can actually use. I know there is the HID, the Halos, then the really small light (City Light or Angel light?), then the larger clear light. (I hate sounding so dumb, but there is quite a lot of different terminology used in this forum depending on where you are from). Is it possible to hook up all of these with only 4 wires and one connector? I know I am missing something.
I think i understand the blinker assembly...I just have to remove the new one and use my old light with the three pins....right? Can I do this with the lights I am ordering?
Thank you all for the support!
Not to talk more, but I have had my Red SLK 230 for 2 months, and I love it! It amazed me how many modification can be done with this car.
I am changing to projectors too. How did you remove the third (bottom) screw on both the driver and passenger side? Your wiring for the turn signal is same as my 2002 slk230. It has 4 wires and the new projector housing has only two prongs. I am still trying to figure out how to fit it.
Mantist,
The third screw sits directly underneath the turn signal part of the headlight assembly. There is a piece of plastic, a latch, that you pull or rather move to the side, that will release the turn signal. My dumb self broke mine trying to get it out. Of course after I removed it, I figured it out. The first picture show the latch on the lights that I returned. It is the grey piece just to the right of the turn signal connector. The second picture is my old one, broken, but you can see just to the right of the yellow connector where it broke. You should be able to find this latch without too much trouble. I would like to add, if I would have found this forum earlier, I wouldn't have broke it. There is mention of how to do this somewhere in here, I just don't remember where. I have read a lot!
You only have to twist the turn signal connector to remove it. You need to keep it to put it in your new light. At least this is what I understand from entries in the forum.
