Quite a few years ago I bought a BMW from B&L and had the same issues. For another option or possibly a second opinion, try Prestige Auto in Kitchener. The owner is Ayub and he specializes in MB's. He's fabulous and a bunch of friends are using him now too. I've attached a link. He worked for MB for many years and I have yet to see him stumped.
That is awesome, I am definitely going to check that out. I've never fully trusted B&L but I prefer them over the dealership. I would prefer to do everything myself, but I just don't have all the tools and time that I wish I did.
Ayub and Prestige auto can hopefully shed some light on this situation. Thanks Dan!
Also noteworthy, I took a drive to North York and back today, and while my cruise control worked fine at 100km/h, it didn't hold at 130-140 for some reason. If i set it and released the pedal, the car would decelerate as if there was no cruise. But if I let go of the pedal and held the lever up, to accelerate, it eventually would hold the speed, but not very well... I found that to be really odd and I wonder if it's related... Hmmm.

Prob not. Cruise uses the speed sensors off the wheels. If there is a differnce in tyre diameter front to rear due to wear or pressure the error is greater the faster you go so it drops out.

Bazzle
Good call on that one Bazzle.. You're totally right. My tires are a couple cm larger in the back, they're 245/50 and my fronts are 225/50.
well, I ran factory sized tires last year when this happened for the first time... as well as all winter. I have my factory rims with my winter tyres on them which I could mount, but I have a feeling it won't make a difference in my case...
yosefk, wow what a tough break on the series of transmission failures. It's enough to make you consider a manual(well, almost). When you changeout to manual,IIRC,not only are there linkage changes but you have to get a clutch/pressure plate assembly(hydraulic activated?)and a thrust bearing as the crankshaft is now under loading from the clutch.
My auto trans(knock on wood)has only had the connector plug leak.Warranty covered the fairly simple fix.
