when i drive my slk over bumps or uneven roads, i can hear a knocking sound above the left side of my head. i felt around up there with my hand, and there is slight movement in the hinge piece, making the knocking sound.
is something loose in the roof, or is a latch not closing properly? can it be adjusted? otherwise, the top operates correctly and has never caused me any problems. the knocking is not loud, but it is right by my head so it is very noticable, and i'd like to fix it. does anybody have a suggestion on where to start?
btw - i know, the quickest fix is to drop the top but its been raining out, so the top's been up!

I'm having exactly the same problem but in both sides and very noise when I drive over 30miles an hour, is a creaking sound
I just bought some PBR Rubber Cream to see if this will help to reduce the noise
Quick method of isolating whether it's the rubbers or something else is to wash or hose your car and see if it is much quieter - mine always gets brilliantly quiet after rain.
There have been posts on the parcel shelf rattle and something to do with belt tensioners - I have a LH belt tensioner noise when my wife gets in and uses it (we are RH drive) - yet to be resolved
no smart ass comments about the problem - she reads the forum!
