Trouble Code P0341 - effect?

I have been having an issue with intermittent power - sometimes the car will accelerate well, other times it won't (as if the suprecharger isn't effective) . I pulled out the codes from the engine and I have a P0341 - camshaft hall effect sensor fault code.
Can anyone tell me what the practical implication of this fault is? Could it be related to the intermittent power problem? Where is this item located? Could be just a loose wire maybe?
Any help appreciated.

Thanks guys. Looks like the very thing - same symptoms and same code. Will check the plug & wiring and if OK will try to get the sensor changed Monday. The car will be in the shop tracking down the problem anyway, so at least I can tell them the most likely culprit.

Sugest you try engine live data on your new Carsoft Multiplexer

Mine gives a reading for Hall Sensor Camshaft of 85/170 (alternates) at idle

When I disconnected the Cam Sensor the reading was 255 and Code P0341 was set

Looks like the Carsoft will pay for itself with the first scan with the problems it has shown up.........
80 / 160 on mine.

Havnt pulled the plug yet. Next time

Yes, just did that. 85/170 on mine when the engine is cool. When the engine warms up it stops working (255) and the code P0341 is set. Tried all of this today. Car ran beautifully till temperature climbed and I could actually pick the point at which the sensor stopped working. I don't know how many shop hours this will save me, but lots. So far the MB workshop guys have been clueless on this problem and I was going to have the whole air intake system pulled apart tomorrow by another European car specialist. Now I'll ask them just to replace the sensor. Will still cost $ no doubt, but much less than it would have without the diagnostics.
Still no clue on my PSE fault - shows faulty without a code. I cleared it today but it still shows a fault. No other symptoms so I guess it's a communications fault of some kind. CarSoft is a bit opaque and doesn't allow you to drill into the diagnostic data. Does anyone have the CIS that accompanies CarSoft?

Just to close this off... replaced camshaft sensor today - hey presto, runs like a new car and accelerates very well with just light throttle. Problems solved, thanks to all who helped.
