I was at opening ceremonies at this years San Diego International Auto Show. These shows are ok but most if not all of the exotics are from Symbolic Motors in La Jolla. Easliy one of the top 10 car show rooms in the US. The sell Bugati Verylons, Saleen 7's and a ton of Lambos. You want it they got it. SLR just sits in the shop room for looks. IMHO the show was dead. The 3 brightest spots were the 2 concepts and the new Jaguar XK sportster. The guy who designed the Aston Martin also designde the Jag and it is hot!! M6 was nice to!
Concept cars are hard to visualize unless you see them in person. I have followed the extensive write ups about the 2009 Camaro and the Challenger. I thought the Camaro looked better but the front did not appeal to me. Once I saw the Camaro I knew it was love at first sight. If they make it any where close to the sheet metal I saw it will be a smash hit. The Charger retro is to fat and ugly. They are planning on a stock engine from a Vette, the LS2 good for 400bhp. In person the Camaro and the Challenger are 2 damm good looking cars with an attitude.
The Camaro is the same car that was unveiled last year. Two biggest problems with purchasin the Camaro are 1 - it is built by the UAW and 2 - you have to deal with crappy GM dealerhships.
Before we were married my wife owned a GM vehcile. That thing was taken to over 9 dealerships and they all sucked. Things got so bad that I ended up having to call GM headquaters every time I took the car in to have them keep the dealership on the straight and narrow.

Same here, bought my wife a new Buick in 04,junk is to kind for this thing.
Value dropped like a rock, finally unloaded it a few months back-NEVER again.
In 2000 I bought a new Pathfinder, just cant talk myself into letting it go.
I drive my SLK unless it is bad weather, then its the Pathfinder.
Bottom Line-GMC SUCKS....
Quality is definetly a concern but the sheet metal is awesome. I looked at the Charger and 300 SRT8's and the quality was shit IMHO. You were paying for the Hemi. With the Camaro you are geting awesome looks and the LS2 engine. How much do you all think they will ask for the Camaro. The only SLK at the auto show as a red SLK280. Like I said a booring show for me. The new G35 coupe is a good looking car.
The Camaro will be in the same price range as the Mustang. My guess is that when comparing apples to apples the Camaro will come out a tad more.
Both cars look very nice. There is a rumor of the challenger offering an optional 6.4L hemi. The 6.1 makes 425 hp so wonder what the 6.4 will make.
Lock out the UAW, hire new workers, pay them a reasonable wage while changing the retirment package, eliminate union dues, union "management postions", positions to deal with the unions, and you will end up with a higher quality car and reduce your coporate costs.
From a looks standpoint, it's pretty cool. From the side it kind of looks like the new Mustangs. I read an article today in Motor Trend that compared this car, the new Dodge Charger and the new Mustang Bullit. Apparently, Dodge and Chevy are gunning for the 'Stang, but their cars cost more to build so the 'Stang will retail for less.....so the article says. In any event, a little competition never hurts!
I applaud both manufacturers for building the cars. Just more cars for me to surprise and embarass in my SLK.
Competion is good.
Ford has owned the market for what a decade plus? Funny thing is I remember when Ford tried to kill off the Mustang. They were going to replace it with the Ford Probe - the vision of the future. A letter writing campaign by Mustang owners saved the car. Of course the Probe is no more and the Mustang has continued to sell very well. I can't help but wonder if Ford would not be in much worse shape if they had gotten rid of the stang.
Looks almost as retarded as the new retro Mustang.
I wish Detroit could get some fresh ideas and give up on taking classic designs, adding 1000 pounds to them, and pushing them out as super-sized (I might say fat-assed) mockeries of yesterday's muscle cars.
