Looking for PSE Control Module. Dealer wants $860!
Thanks for all the great posts in this forum. You guys are super helpful.
I figured out my leaky trunk in my '99 SLK 230 corroded one of the connectors on my PSE Control Module and I need a new one because one of the little pins broke off.
I called my local dealer, gave him the Part # from the PSE and he quoted me $860!
I'm wondering if I can get it rebuilt or if someone knows where I can get one for less. I've looked on ebay and found nothing and searched this forum and found guys saying it should only cost about $200-$300.
I'd even be happy to pay $500 of someone knew where.
Can someone tell me where they bought theirs for less or if they have any leads for a less expensive vendor?

Google Potomac German Auto, talk to Pat Barthalow. When I was up there a week or so ago they had a black SLK the looked like someone sat on it, but the PSE might be OK.....

You might find a good electrician that could fix that for a lot less.

As you may know, water leaks and corroding pins are a common problem with early model SLKs.
I had a faulty PSE when I bought my SLK used from a local Mercedes dealer and it was in the deal to get it repaired. They replaced the PSE module....but never fixed the harness and in a mater of weeks after the first fall rain, I had a leak and a failed PSE again. After a lot of searching I found that Mercedes makes a retrofit kit which turns the PSE upside down and puts a loop in the wiring harness that pretty much eliminates failed PSE pumps and corroded pins. I would strongly encourage you to get this retrofit kit installed when you get your repairs done, otherwise you maybe going back again and again for the same problem as it is a design flaw with the car....
I have briefly looked for the post that I found this info on....but can't locate it and now that I have mine fixed I trashed the documents......Sorry.
Hope this helps!

Our dealer "only" charges $508 for the part. I can't believe the harness costs $200. It's standard 0.1" pin headers for crissake!
My module is dead too. The pump motor's fried, the relays are corroded, and most of the pins in the data connectors pulled off from the board when I unplugged the connectors. It's toast.
I've been living without. I found that Potomac auto had one for about $440 a few months ago, but I passed... I would like to find a cheaper one too. I can repair many electronical things, as I'm an engineer, but this thing is way too far gone. If anyone knows where PSE parts can be found, I'd be interested.

I'm gonna call Potomac German Auto tomorrow and see it they still have a PSE and I'll visit my local electronics store to see if they might be able to fix it.
Yendor,
Which dealership are you speaking of? Is there a dealership in Ojai?
I'm also need to figure out how to protect the new one when I receive it. $200 might be worth spending to protect it.
