I have had mine upto 143 MPH, verified with GPS. At that speed, our spedo's are off about 5 mph..

In Germany, the auto manufacturers (Audi, BMW, and Mercedes, but I'm not sure about Porsche) got together and agreed--outside of government intervention--that cars would be limited to 250kph (155mph) in the interest of public safety.

For the '98-'00 SLK230, the top speed is electronically limited to 140mph for automatics and 142mph for manuals, according to MBUSA. There was a magazine article published shortly after the '01 SLK320 came out that said it's top speed was only 129mph (it's 152mph in Germany). The SLK32 AMG is limited to 155mph in the US and in Germany. So, the answer is that the '01 and up SLK230 and SLK320 might be limited to 130, but the '98-'00 SLK230 and the '02 SLK32 AMG definitely are not limited to 130. BTW, the '98-'02 CLK320 and CLK430 are limited to 130mph.

I was told by the dealer that my '01 is limited to 130. MBUSA said it was limited at 140. I have had it to about 135 so I know the dealer was not correct. I haven't had room or nerve to try the 140.
