To fix the low beams-only problem with the new halogen headlights, you need to re-wire the relay connector. Fortunately, it's easy. Here's how....
All you need is a skinny screwdriver (to remove the spade lugs) and a voltmeter (to test your work).
Remove all the wires, except the brown ones, from the connector. The first photo shows you how to do it with a small screwdriver. There's a tab on the back of the spade connector that needs to be pushed in gently, then the wire can be pulled out.
The second photo idenitifies the "in" and "out" connectors.
The third photo shows the correct positions of the wires, in accordance with the numbers next to the spade lugs on the bottom of the relay. They should be placed in the connector accordingly:
30 = Yellow IN (low beam in)
85 = White IN (high beam in)
86 = Brown (Ground wires -- DO NOT MOVE)
87 = White OUT (high beam out)
87a = Yellow OUT (low beam out)
The fourth drawing shows the corresponding numbers on the connector, from the wire side, not the side where the relay goes in.
If you can, check your wiring with a meter or test light. I've tried my best, but I can't be responsible for blown fuses or other damage (but you already knew that )
Holy crap! Nice work, didn't realize it was going to involve all that to get the halogen lights in!! I guess I had it easy with my HID retrofit.
How do you like the way they look on you're car??? I just upgraded my grill with a CLK version and can't believe its the same car! It looks new, I'll post pics this week right after I wash it
I just purchased the DEPO lighting with no bulbs and an adaptor harness comes with the headlights. I'm hopeful the rewireing won't be necessary, but I could do it if necessary.

Even my wife likes the look. But she wants me to do the silver SLK Premier Edition grille.

Rewiring is a 15 minute job, since I cracked the code. Don't worry!
