Saved by the power. BUT!!!

I deleted the post due to poor grammer. That's what I get for drinking while writting.

Long story made short... I dodged a bullet on Friday ( a woman blazing through a red light), I down shifted stepped on it and spun my car around successfully avoiding her, if I had stopped instead, there's a very good chance that I'd be dead right now. I hit the curb with my car and destroyed my drivers side rear and front wheels and all the bars etc that keep them straight.
The very back of my rear tire is bent inward towards the exhaust and the front part of the wheel is extended out in beyond the body. There's a huge gash in my front rim. From what I can tell it looks like the frame could be bent. I got this impression because the drivers side of the car now sits lower than the passenger side. The body panels themselves seem to be ok, all the seams in the doors, trunk, and lighting seem to be equaly spaced on each side of the car.

The woman kept going, I have no way of identifying her. Everyone at the scene left, no one stayed at the scene to even see if I was ok.

I'm ok, just a little stiff. Talk about a bad day. . Ya, I'm devistated, I love the car. The tow truck guy said that he's seen worse get repaired. My traction control was off and what made it worse was it was 46 degrees outside, not a very good thing if your looking for traction with hp summer tires. I will say this, if I was in my wife's C class when I stepped on it I would have probly gotten hurt also because the power doesn't come as instantly as in the 32. If I didn't have a car directly infront things could have been differant as well, I had to avoid her and an island in the center of the street as well.

Sorry to hear that...I'm glad you were not hurt badly. Hopefully they can fix it, or if not maybe you'll just have to shop for another one.

Maaaaan that really sucks. Were there any crash cameras at the intersection? You might be able to go to the city and ask them for the tape.

The woman never hit me, thank God. There's skid marks made by her and you can see where she burned out when she took off afterwards.

Angry? Nah, I'm not angry. I'm more depressed than anything else. My gosh, I'm the type of person that will wait and hold the door for a woman, insist and pick up things that a women may have dropped, I even will take a trip back to the toll booth if the man had over paid me a dime miscounting my change. All I want in life is people to treat me the same way. Calm down, smell the roses. I wasn't always like this, but after dying on the operating table once and then later getting 8 hours to live... that I'm still living on I tend to look at how fragile our lives can be and just want to do my part in making this marble that we live on a better place.

Now I'm going to get hammered by the insurance company. The one that I've only made two claims upon in 25 years. Oh ya, they'll punish me bad in MA. For every accident you have, there's a 6 year surcharge and your driving points go up to raise your rates.

The reason that I was on the road? Well, I was delivering a trunk full of bittersweet to my 79 year old mother some 40 miles away that my loving wife had cut for her so she can decorate her home for the Thanksgiving holidays.

I don't think that I could get another 32. I haven't worked for the past 10 years due to all the back surgeries that I had. 9 to be exact. I'll prolly end up in new Miata.

They only raise your rates if it was your fault right. Have a police report wrote up based upon your own explanation. it might help.

About 5 years ago I dodged hitting a cow. I was going pretty fast and rolled my car over once. At that time I was told that if I had hit the cow it would have not been my fault but since I did not hit him it was my fault. Each state and insurance co is different though and it might be wise to get some advice before you tell your version of events. take a add out in the paper looking for a witness that may have seen the near miss.

Sorry to hear that John Boy. It sucks when you lose something you love because of someone elses carelessness.
God a Miata, are you in for a letdown........ Maybe you might want to look at a Honda S2000?

Agreed. I'd get an s2000 or a 350z.
Miatas have always been called gay/chick cars (no offense to any gays or chicks). The new one is the first one that could be called a sports car due to its acceleration (and of coarse always good handling from a miata).

I realize 0-60 isn't everything, but heck, lateral acceleration is one of the best parts about the slk32.

Used 350z $17-25k 5.5
Used s2000 $14-27k 0-60mph is 5.5-6.5
Used SLK32 $24(rare)-35k 0-60mph 4.5
SLK230 6.9
slk320 6.5
2006 Miata starts under 20k 0-60 6.5

Also, I've found that a great thing to do is to search for local dealers on eBay, and go check the cars out in person. That way, it's not like you're buying from eBay, just finding cars listed on eBay by a dealer. I got my slk230 like this and my dad got an infinity Q45 like this.

Glad to hear that you are Ok but I am sorry to hear your car is not.

Not sure what car to point you to. There are very few cars as fast as the SLK32. Then add in the hard top convertible and it is a large hole to fill.

The S2000 is a nice handling car but no torque and you have to drive it like you stole it to get anything out of the engine.

The 350Z. Well I have not been shy in saying that I am not a fan of the car. It has poor driver feeling, a subpar interior, barely adequate performance for a 'sports' car.

Maybe a Saturn Sky Redline if that is the type of price range you are looking in.

Or if you want an SLK32 make me an offer. I am looking at potentially a couple of changes in my life and maybe looking to sell the SLK32 and get something else.
