I'm impressed. My mirror has a "frozen wave" figure in the middle and does not dim at night. I called Dani on Friday 2/16/07. She sent the form by e-mail the same day. I filled out the form, returned it by e-mail with a picture of the mirror over the weekend and received the mirror on Friday 2/23. I'll have the dealer replace it this week - I'm only a minor repair person.
Thanks a lot for this very helpful information. Called Dani on 2/27/07, she e-mailed the claims form the same day, I e-mailed it back day after with my rearview mirror's picture attached, received mirror she sent afternoon of 3/2/07, I had my brother replace it that night. Super! It looks great!
Thanks to this forum and Dani I was able to replace the leaky mirror on my 2000 slk. I have the same problem with the drivers side mirror. Can anyone help with that problem? the dealer wants $400 to just replace the glass portion.
Success!!! I replaced my old mirror with the new mirror from Dani @ Magna-Donnelly Corporation today. Sorry no pics, no camera handy at the time. To get at the wires though I found an easier way, so you do not have to remove the entire headliner panel or even open the roof. Just remove the light fixture in the head liver panel. First, pull gently on the lens covering, it clips on; then gently pull away on one end of the light fixture itself - it too clips on. This leaves you with a rectangular opening through which you can see the wires to the garage door opener, the mic, and the rear view mirror.
*[I guess I should clarify that this was done on a 1999 230. For owners of the newer models perhaps the headliner set up is different, and you may have to unscrew the entire headliner, or get the light fixture out a different way.]
To get the wire out I only unscrewed ONE screw, the one to the right of the driver's sun visor (as you sit in the car). This will give you more than enough room to pull the wire out when you lightly tug on the liner. The assembly is so simple and straightforward, it makes you wonder what they are charging you for at the dealership to get the job done. My dealer was asking for $198 for the job; but I knew there had to be a simple way. I got the mirror free from Dani, and now, about 20 mins later today I have a brand new mirror. Do-It-Yourself and hobbyists RULE!!!
I have similar problem with my exterior driver side mirror. The mirror is usually dark and recently started to change color like the passenger side mirror. Now it looks like a leek caused the mirror to go half dark half regular mirror. ANy tips? Thanks
Dani at Magna Donnelley Corp is amazing. she was extremely helpful and quick to send me a replacement mirror for my 2000 SLK230. i would highly recommend anyone to do business with this company.
a couple of people here posted the installation. is it really that easy to install? removing the screws of both sun visors and the panel sounds a bit involved. are ther screws just for the mirror without having to remove the panel?
