HID Kit Install Question. Please help!

Hey Everyone,

I am about to purchase an aftermarket HID kit in about an hour. I just wanted to know if the package says plug and play..is it really "plug and play"? Will i have any type of problems of power current or anything? Or is it simply plug the unit in and I'm ready to roll?

Thanks in advance!

Rich

The ones I did were. Just used the original connectors for the H7s.
Not rocket science.

So do you know if there is a difference between 1998 and a 2001 SLK? I have an 01 and just want to make sure the car has enough current to start up the ballast...

Thanks,

Rich

Same AFAIK

You will need to up the light fuses to 20amp to hold the inrush current (maybe)
If it has relays that doesnt apply but they are not necessary.

I used the Carlab kit, $260 forum special on my C230 and they work great. May do it on the SLK when I have time. www.carlabms.com. You just plug the box to the bulb harness, put the bulb in place, find a way to secure the box and you are done. They come in different temps, I believe the factory is something like 4300K and I got the 6000K and 8000K is their bluest.

HID Kit

Hi. Thanks for the responses. Can someone tell me where to locate the headlight fuses?

Also, my kit is plug and play...so it has no relays.

Do you guys think I'll still be ok? I have a 2001 SLK. Sorry for all these questions. I'm a new owner.....

Thanks,

Rich

Just do it.
Fuses at end of dash behind panel opened by LARGE screw.
Fuse panel joined to rear of light switch.

Hardest part is cutting hole in back of dust cover on rear of light assembly for grommet.
Pix of mine are on here somewhere!!

Since we're talking about HID's can I ask a question?

I just try installing a Ebay kit today and I can't get the right (passenger) side to work. After playing with the supposedly simple plug n play wiring for like an hour I was only able to get the left (Driver) side to work. The reason I couldn't get it to work at first is because I wired the +/- backwards. oops. Before I get bashed let me explain. There's two wires from the kit that needed to be connected to the stock harness, a black and a blue. (instructions said red + / black -) Yeah WTF. So I figure black is - and blue is +. I was wrong. So now I'm not getting any power (+) coming out of the right stock wiring harness. Has this happen to anyone and what did you do to fix it? Also curious is there a seperate fuse for the left and right headlight? oh, the highbeam works on both side.

I did and one was burnt, changed it and still no power. Is there a list of what fuse is for what somewhere in the forum? My list is missing and didn't see one in the owners manual.

Thanks
Ed
