Bump! Anyone have any suggestions for a water based stripper I can use to strip the console and other parts prior to a repaint?

I plan on using the Volico paint and topcoat, but has anyone else used this without using the Volico primer? I think I remember seeing someone using a Krylon plastic primer?

Is it requared a special primer? I was going just paint it without primer. Can I use a regular primer?

I got my first couple of parts (glove box cover and right side dash panel) stripped over the last couple of days. I used Goof Off 2 because I couldn't find any other type of stripper that said it was safe for plastic. The Goof Off 2 took a while and several applications to get the paint off. It worked good but I sure wish I could find something that was a bit more effective (quicker) and safe for the plastic. I am going to take out the console over the weekend and start to strip that one.

Again...anyone know of a better stripper that I can use that is safe for the plastic?

For any of you guys planning to paint the interior in the Northern winter, be aware that a low ambient temp can affect paint adhesion. Should not be applied below 10deg C (50deg F)

I guess this would similarly apply to the Volico product - worth checking

Oberoi,
Hello, I just joined this site. I hope your still active on here, cuz you have a wealth of knowledge, lol
I have the same problem everyone is having with the peeling of the interior
here can I get this paint? I live in Florida, also did you spray it on, brush it?
If so could you give me a few pointers, cuz I will be doing it myself can't afford to get it done professionally and I'm a single woman, but handy, lol
thanks so much in advance

Hi Deb,

Most of the feedback in the early days (when I was sending out the paint from home) was from women - I think they took a lot of trouble and were particularly appreciative of fixing up an otherwise perfect car.

To answer your questions - Spray is a different formulation(has to be thinner) and is suitable if you are pulling the panels out - I worry about overspray in the car.
The Viponds paint is a brushable type and is sufficiently 'flat' to work perfectly when wiped on with a lint free cloth.

I've just retouched my dash and console after 2.5 yrs and only needed to retouch parts with a cloth (not the whole lot)

I use a fine brush to build up chipped paint to the thickness of the original -wait to dry then a final wipe over with paint on a cloth.

This stuff dries fairly quickly so important to wipe on reasonably fast and not to go over any previous bits or you'll rub it off.

Here's the info I sent out earlier - let me know if you need any other inf.

They can certainly match the colour and level of sheen - there is a matting agent to dull paint down and a glossing agent I think to bring it up - 1 litre min mix volume for original match to sample

Send me a PM if you want more inf

Hi Oberoi,

Thanks, but if it is a soft paint / leather / vinyl feel than it will not work for me. The button covers (a PC/ABS blend) feel hard and cold, like plastic. They are not intended to have a soft interer cover or panel feel. Thank you. Volico did send me some paint that is a "Deeper" black, but it is not 100% on the money, more like 93%...Very very close!

Thanks,
Jake

(Good luck all on your interior repair...)
