A few pages back on this thread there is mention of the paint becoming available in a spray can - that would be ideal for me as my console has got so many large areas needing repaint that I would much rather remove it and spray paint the entire console at one time. Anyone have any updated information? Thanks!
VOLICO plans this year to work with an distributor in the U.S., the spraycans for all leather and interior mercedes colors will be availalble direct from the factory supplier from germany.
Sending spraycans by Air ist not possible cause Aerosol, has to be shipped by sea.
I keep you informed
Just received my Viponds paint. After spilling 95% of the buttle under the car (fuuuu$%#@*), i succesfuly manage to paint the black areas of my center console. 30 minutes has passed and there is still a difference between the old paint and the new one, the new one beeing lighter. I also tried the paint (antracit) on the scrachtes from one of the seats: bad idea, huge difference (duuuh).
I was talking to a fellow SLK owner yesterday, and he told me that the American Service Center in Arlington, VA refurbished his center console and a few other areas where the paint had been peeling. I know that others on this forum were finding DIY methods to solve this problem, but this guy told me that for $200 the ASC did it for him and it looks brand new. I am not sure if other dealers offer this service.
What Kind of Paint thinner has everyone used to peel off the old paint? Ideally, I want to make sure that the the Black shiny plastic underneath is in tact since I just want to clean it off, then Armor All it.
I think Paint thinner will just make a sticky mess, Im pritty sure it will melt the dash.
I was thinking the same thing, but I read in a few places of people using diluted paint thinner, so I am hoping on some clarification before I touch anything.
Nix on the paint thinner (even diluted) - some idiot put nail polish on a bit of mine some years ago and it's there forever! (had to sand it smooth and lost a few dimples)
Old style caustic paint remover is OK if you are really careful and wipe off when bubbling starts - Someone over your way found a new age remover that was less aggressive to the ABS or whatever it is. (go back a few pages for pics of a sandblasted version)
That said, it's still going to be easier to repaint it!!!!
