Which dealer did you go to? Its free for labor, I got mine finally done w/free loaner car. BTW my trunk area looks like crap from couple of years of warranty repair on the tail lights. MB techs don't care about being careful with your car.

You're going to the wrong dealer. My guys vacuum everywhere when they are done.
Maybe you should do as I do, tell them you lost a gold coin in the car somewhere and haven't been able to find it......

Yes, ALL SLK's are covered. Take a look at the backside of the tail light bucket, the new sockets for the brake lights should be black, and there should be small "bumps" embossed into the circuit strips where the contacts are made with the sockets.
The older type have blue or green sockets and the circuit strips are flat with no "bumps". The bumps give greater contact area for the socket tabs, and there may be a different plastic in the socket/bulb holder.
Took mine into M.B. of Long Beach today. No problems, no attitudes, no issues. They do have to get the parts in stock so a couple of days and they'll call me to bring it back. Very courteous and no issues at all.
UPDATE:
Parts came in yesterday and they called me back for appointment this AM. Dropped car off before work, had it back this afternoon - with a nice free wash. New rear lights look good - I'll take some pics when I get the chance. MB of Long Beach gets an "A" in my book for this.

I wonder when any of these upgraded lights are going to be available on Ebay. I drive a 1999 SLK and bought the newer 2001-2004 tail lights for the aesthetic look. Of course, when I got the recall notice, I put my old defunct tail lamps on and took it to the dealer to get the newer recall lamps.
So, now I have the upgraded recall lights but the 01-04 lamps I bought off Ebay are susceptible to the overheat problem. I wish I could relace them with newer durable ones that do not have the overheat problem.
I Stopped by the local MB Dealer in Chandler AZ.
Asked if my 2000 SLK 230 was part of the Tail light Recall.
They confirmed and They replaced Both Tail light Assy's on Saturday.
Charged $0.

Prior to the initial recall on the tail lights, my wife had already encountered multiple burned out tail lamps. It was costing us a lot of money both in bulbs and finally a complete change out of sockets. Then one day we finally received a recall notice in the mail saying there was a recall but, no parts yet. They would send another letter once parts were available. We never recieved the second letter as they indicated, so we took it in anyways. They did the recall work and we also filed paperwork w/MB to be reimbursed for all the tail light work we paid for.

Better yet, I called the dealer in Alphatetta, GA about my radio code. Gave him the VIN and he gave me the code and also told me the recall hadn't yet been done on my SLK. He dispatched the mobile mechanic who met me at work the next day and did the swap in the parking lot.
