When this was first posted I called my local MB dealer.
I was told my 01 was not covered.
Then I called MBUSA and was told the same.

This is crap...all R170 models are supposed to be covered. You can confirm this by looking on the NHTSA website. If MB still says it is not covered, then file a complaint with the NHTSA.

I filed complaint to NHTSA, they said to contact MBUSA. MBUSA said no recall on 2003 slk230.

Has anyone been reimbursed for taillights they'd previously had replaced? We turned in a claim at the dealership for one. Didn't hear anything so my wife called MBUSA the other day and they referred her back to the dealer.

Just called MBUSA,again.
Their story has changed.
I was told the recall for all 170R is correct (BUT) Stuttgart has not supplied us with the VIN's of the 2001-04 models that will qualify.
MBUSA said I will receive a letter if mine is included.
WOW!!
What a run around, quite evident the operators have been schooled on exactly how to respond. What a load of bs.
How about a class action lawsuit?
Any lawyers versed in class actions on this post?

****OH ,I filed complaint with NHTSA****

Class action? hm. wouldn't that be perfect for MB? Instead of spending money finding all MB owners. tracing them down, getting replacement lights, they settle out of court with the attorneys. The attorneys get 90%, we get $20 (or a 2% discount coupon good for your next purchase of a new MB).

(which by the way, I lost my coupon for the Millie Vanilli class action lawsuit settlement,) @#$ (@#*%@#&*$%&

Just took mine in for service on the retractable roof. The service manager said the recall hasn't come in yet for the later models, but they will fix it when its turn comes. TICK - TOCK.

We got a check in the mail today from Mercedes for the $182.60 that we spent a couple years ago to have one of the tail lights replaced.

That is great, wonder if those that replaced them mutiple times will be compensated for each repair?
My guess would be no.
Anyway,enjoy!

2002 SLK32 Recall notice came today

I guess I am the first to report receiving the recall letter for the FL models...it says it is the first of 2 letters I will receive. They don't have the new light assemblies yet but if I have a failure the dealer will replace the assembly with the current one at no charge. In the Spring of 2007 they expect to have the new assemblies available and I will receive a second notice at that time.

I hope everyone starts getting their letters so those with bad brake lights can get them repaired for free while we wait for the replacements. Both of mine were replaced just under 2 years ago under warranty and I modified the lamp holders with zip ties so I think they will be good until the new ones arrive.

The back of the letter also has instructions on how to get reimbursed if you already paid to have them repaired.
