Bazzle, Fantastic work! I'm kicking myself for not seeing this thread before. You easily saved me hundreds of dollars in labor. My door locks stopped working last week, and after reading this, I finally pulled out my PSE Pump and sure enought he board and the plastic case inside was covered in this green-ish mildew dust. WD-40 and a tooth brush, and voila, its all clean. I put it back together and voila the locks are working again. Amazing how a little mildew can cause so much trouble. Mercedes-Benz should be ashamed for not having a recall on this. I have a question though. The Dome light inside my car remains on constantly unless I turn it off. I noticed, while brushing the PSE Pump board, it looks like I knocked a small tan plastic tip off the board, near where the pump sits. I didn't have my camera so I couldn't take a picture of it. I wasn't using any pressure at all, so the piece must have been rusted enough that a stiff breeze would have knocked it off. Is there anyway to know what section of this board controls the dome light? Any other suggestions on what is causing the doom light to remain on? The dome light is not a big deal to me, as keeping it off is just fine by me. However, if I wanted to replace my PSE Pump has anyone found a reliable and inexpensive source they can recommend? I have a saudering iron, I've never used, but would it be worth trying to sauder this piece back onto the board? I'm not an expert, but it doesn't look that complicated. I did not seal my PSE Pump board, so I may get some spray and put it back out and work on it again in a weekend or two. Thanks for your efforts.

Um, it will be better to post this in the W210 forum. You are more likely to get an answer there for you car, seeing that you drive a W210 and not a R170.

well, my 2001 slk just experienced this problem. the PSC was inverted, in the newer closed cell latex foam shell, has vent holes & still managed to pull in almost 1/2 a cup of water. after examining the wiring, case & failing to find any signs of water damage or entry into the case i have come to the conclusion that the water was pulled in through the locking system by the vacum pump. i spliced in 3 water separator devices designed for air compressors & over the past 2 weeks they have accumulated a decent amount of moisture vapor, not a lot, but enough that over time i could see this being the culprit.
my question is this...... has anyone who followed the sealed bag TSB from Merc had the problem continue? i could only imagine this would make the problem worse
In January 2009, the dealership who is doing the B service on my 1999 SLK 230 said that replacing the PSE Pump, including the "update" of turning it upside down, and extending the hoses, was going to cost a grand total of $1,525 US Dollars including parts, labor, and 7% local sales tax. That was just the pump replacement and nothing else.
The best do it yourself price is $390.
Just making some examples of parts...

Guys - I replaced my PSE by pulling one from an auto salvage place - prob is that it was from 2001 (I think) and so now everytime I turn on the car, my horn honks exactly once!
So far, just annoying not life threatening...unless it honks at the wrong time and place
Is there any way to get it "coded" properly without shelling out $100 bucks as the dealer/mechanic is gouging...um, quoting...for likely a 10 min job?
Tahnks for this thread. I have a 2002 SLK 320 that would flash alarm lights occassionally. It then would always keep the interior lights on unles I moved the switch to the off position. I took the PSE out. It was installed the wrong way (not turned upside down as Bazzle told us how to do). I don't yet have the time to turn it upside down so I simple used a tooth brush, sprayed some WD-40 on it, brushed the connector pins with it and reinstalled the PSE. The light problem is fixed . Thanks.
