Could this be causing my alarm to go off? When ever I set my alarm it goes off within a few minutes. Dealer can find out how to fix it. They have replaced a sensor that they thought was the cause but the problem continues. Could the PSA getting wet cause just the alarm problem???
We've had some rain lately so decided to check my PSE. When doing so I realised that it is of the later type with longer lines which are factory fitted upside down (relative to the originals) already. Did not go the full length of opening the unit up as this seemed unnecessary given the fitting. Took some photos though which may be useful for comparative purpose. In addition to the length of the lines, note also that the sponge housing (actually this is more a kind of rubber which I did not test but which I suspect will not absorb water) is different to that on the earlier models. It is also shaped to allow a channel for the routing of vacuum and electrical lines around the underside of the unit. I actually took the pics when reassembling but have arranged them in sequence as if disassembling as this is probably easier to follow. Maybe this will be of use to someone.
could you please give me the part number of PSE 's rubber cover? I need to change rubber cover/protector of my SLK 's pse but it is older type, foamy thing which can hold water and stay damp. As I seen your vehicle's is later type and produced from different material which do not hold water and stay damp also it seem protects PSE which is turned upside down.
cheers

CYP, unfortunately my car and I are in different places. My car is in storage and I am on vacaction until about end January. I'll pick it up then if you haven't come right yet.

You can trun your early PSE unit upside down like the later models. NO wiring loom req even though MB sells one?
Just need to lengthen VAC lines (yellow) 300mm (1 foot)
I used 6mm nylon pneumatic hose. The yellow line just pushes into it, (spit on it 1st and wiggle in about 1/2" or so.
Foam box fits on after unit held back in place.
Mark which hole you unplugged each line from before removal and cutting.
Not sure re post 2000 as loom is slightly diff due to no rear fuse box??

Or can 2001+ model's PSE's be turned upside down without extensions?
Why is there not a recall if this is a problem waiting to happen on all R170's?

Forget the recall.
Just have a look at yours. Hold in your hand and turn over. If the vac hoses are too tight just cut each one seperately a few inches from the end and slip over some rubber vac hose to lengthen.
You can also let us know if thw wiring loom has enough slack.
