measuring rim size? limited ed. rim size?? - Benzworld.org

this may seem like a silly question...but when measuring rims...you measure from one side of the rim to the other...basically the diameter, right????

i'm just double-checking b/c my slk230 is a limited edition & these special slks are supposed to come w/ limited edition 17" rims, right? i never thought to check its actual measurements until i recently bought new amg replicas for my car.

turns out...the ones i have are 18" rather than 17"...hmmm...

No R170 SLK's came standard with 18" rims so you must be measuring them wrong. Why don't you look at what the tire says.

just from looking at them, they look like 17"...

but exactly how do you measure them w/o looking at the tire?

i'm thinking the previous owner might've swapped the originals for other ones?

Yea those are the limited edition wheels, same ones i have on mine. They are 17s

Those are the 17" EVO wheels that only came on the 2000 SLK Limited Edition. I'm not a wheel expert, but obviously your measurement isn't the correct way to do it.

My guess is that you are including the lip in your measurement. The lip holds the tire in place but is not counted in the rim measurement.

your response helped out a lot...that's all i wanted to know...was how to measure...from where to where...thanks!

i just went in to discount tire to have my new 19" wheels installed & they told me the exact same thing...

I don't mean to thread jack or anything, but to the enthusiast what would these wheels be worth. I know that the limited edition differences are basically worthless as MB didn't charge for them, but I'm just curious.

Not sure what there worth, but they are a very nice wheel. They also look great on the C Class. I have a friend that that had them on an older E class...not sure if it was a different offset...2 body styles ago...they really made the look of the car.

Pretty much you can't measure the rim from the outside. The tire size ( 15",16", 17", or 18") is the inside diameter if the tire itself. The rim, because of the shape, can be VERY hard to measure when there is a tire on it. Of course if a tire is on the rim, you can read the size off of the sidewall.....

The rim size is the diameter of the wheel where the inside of the tire bead sits.
