Charcoal canister

Hello fellow owners,

I'm new to this forum eventhough I own a SLK 230 since '01. I have a question to you all. The check engine light came on recently and I had it checked and it's the Charcoal canister acting up. The guy said the car will still function normally but I should get it replaced still. He told me the labor is about 1/2 hr but the part alone costs $600! I assume it could be a DIY project, so I would like to know if any of you have experience in this replacement. And where can I find a replacement Charcoal canister? Thanks a bunch!!

Tom

RE: Charcoal canister

Are you sure it's not the entire gas tank which needs to be replaced? Probably not easy...

How much is half an hour labor? If it's less then 50 bucks, just get 'em to do it for you, they have the right tools.

RE: Charcoal canister

What country are you in?
What type of SLK?
What year

The cannister is an easy change.
Just in front of RH rear wheel. $600? Check price on one of the parts suppliers above 1st.

RE: Charcoal canister

Bazzle, my car is a 2001 SLK 230K. The problem is the cost of the part at $500+ claimed by the dealer. I was hoping that I can find a compatible part on the market and do it myself.
