the official Mercedes-Benz Service CD for model 170 will be available late March, early April.
The CD will cover all available (to MBUSA) service and repair information for Model 170.
Only US models will be covered, not rest of world.
Price has not been set yet. The CD is in final review.
Attached are two images from the CD.
I just ordered the Service CD for the 163 (ML) from the nice lady at 1-800-FOR-MERCedes. $146.82, Disk should arrive next week. I would guess the R170 CD will be priced around the same.
I asked her if there was an R170 CD in the works and she did not know, suggested to call back every few months and check. Now I know.
One might think the price is a bit high, but you can only buy 8 days of access to STAR-TEC for that price ($18 per day).
I need something that can seat 4 people (2 adults + 2 children would be acceptable), but I just haven't found a car that I'm really excited about, yet. The E55 is probably the only car I really would love, but it would be over $100K out-the-door and I just don't think it's a $100K vehicle.
I was seriously thinking about a Dodge Magnum SRT-8, but I just can't get past the front-end styling (kind of like the R171). The Dodge Challenger SRT-8 might be the eventual winner if the production version looks like the show car. Of course, by then there will be several other contenders like the new BMW M3 V8, new C63? AMG, Skyline GT-R, etc.
It's an awesome machine, but it's not worth $100K to me.
The Dodge/Chrysler LX cars are way better bang-for-the buck. 425hp and better handling and braking for half the price of a W211 E55, and they have AMG-tuned parts and are based on the W210 chassis. I just wish they were better looking. There's still hope for the Challenger a year from now.
