Fuel tank won't fill up...

I think this has been discussed before, but the last couple of times I put in gas to my 2001 SLK320, the fuel pump cut off before the tank was full. The fuel level was only 3/4 tank full.<br> Is this a common problem that any MB dealer would know how to fix?

Linh's right, but the problem is probably opposite of what you think...

It's more likely that the fuel tank IS full but the guage is telling you that it's only 3/4 full. This is an extremely common problem and is due to a faulty sending unit (fuel level sensor). M-B says that oxygenated fuels cause it, but they've had six years to fix the problem, so I don't know.

That's funny! In their line of thinking, there's no problem with the paint, its the stones...

that cause chipping.

Wonder if they need to fill the tank to see the problem...

... if so, I'll go to service on an empty tank ;-)
