Drop Skirts??

My 1999 SLK 230 has two "ground effect" black plastic skirts on the front end. One keeps popping out. If I take these off, what effect might there be on the areodynamics of the car at higher end speeds? Otherwise, how do I keep that one skirt from popping out? It never seems to want to pop back in right.

RE: Drop Skirts??

The skirts are mostly for cosemetic reasons. If you were driving on the autobhan you might feel a slight difference.

I am not 100% sure how the side skirts are held on. I would suggest that you take them off and look for a broken or damaged tab. If all else fails clean the surface and use an adhesive or 3M automotive double sided tape.

Ahhh, the many uses of duct tape [:D]

I don't think it would have any impact, those things are just cosmetic.

It would be good to have a photo to see what you're talking about....

Typically if your speeds are below 100 to 120 you will not get a large effect from the small aero features of these cars.
Things in front and low, generally divert air from under the car and tend to drop the air pressure there, that gives a slight negative lift effect.
With the ground clearance we have, the added shapes don't have much effect on negative lift.
