Good Tweeter Location?

Is that a good location for a tweeter? Where the shiny wood is? I want to take out that plastic part and install a new tweeter. Tell me what you think.

RE: Good Tweeter Location?

I think it would be much easier to go in the stock location.

Just in front of the door handle.

RE: Good Tweeter Location?

yea i know about that location. I will put in new tweeters in there. But i want to add two more tweeters since i'm adding some heavier sound...and i figured that, that's the best place to put them...

i'm figuring that not many people on here have tried anything like this correct? I guess i'm going to have to try this myself and post the results later...

RE: Good Tweeter Location?

If you have enough room to mount them there, then yes, its a good spot. In quite a few cars there is a factory tweeter located there.

Have also seen then located on the pillars running up the side of the windshield. If you add 4 or more tweeters you might run the risk of making the audio system sound a bit harsh and damage the soundstage. Id suggest either putting them in the doors or one of the other locations.

RE: Good Tweeter Location?

Well destroy might of been a strong choice of words on my part, but it clearly could interfere with it. Since highs are directional having them hitting u from the sides and the front and at different distances from your ears would impact the soundstage. I don’t have any direct experience in the slk w/this problem but I did have it before in a previous car. I installed a second set of tweets, one set on the dash, the other in the stock location near the kick panels I can say when I fired them all up it sounded considerably worse than running either pair w/the system separately. It mudded the sound. But if u do give it a go keep us posted, and tweeters on the mirror panels or windshield supports could give a much better placement than the doors.
