I just saw official price of SLK55 AMG is $61220 and official 0-60mph is 4.9s.
At first, I didn't believe it could be slower than the SLK32, then I checked the specs: 177lbs heavier, 6hp more, 44ft-lb more, and Cd is 0.03 worse. So 0.1s slower seems reasonable even if it is negligible.
I know the R171 offers alot more features than the R170, but this is the high performance version. I'm disappointed that the SLK55 is slower than the SLK32 and costs 10% more.

I wouldn't be surprised that they got this wrong again sine MBUSA can't seem to get any information correctly. They afterall mixed up the HP numbers of the SLK55 with the displacement of the 350 to say it surpassed the magical 100hp/liter barrier.
All that aside, road tests in europe have shown the SLK55 to be significantly faster than its advertised time.
From www.mercedes-benz.co.uk:
" Performance 0-62.5mph: 4.9 secs "
From Edmunds.com (http://www.edmunds.com/reviews/roadtests/firstdrive/103166/article.html)
Mercedes-AMG says that the upgraded roadster will do 0-to-60-mph sprints in 4.7 seconds, and zero to 125 mph in 17.5 seconds.
I do agree that the SLK55's P/W ratio isn't significantly different from the SLK32 AMG - they really should have slapped the Supercharger on this engine, but where to place it? Also It would probably outperform the SL 55, E55, CLS 55 and the entire bevy of other AMG vehicles, making it a bad idea.

The big advantage of the SLK 55 is cubic inches ....
It's MUCH easier to up grade a big engine then it is a smaller supercharged engine. A simple set of cams and you can bump up the horsepower and torque to WAY beyond what the '32 can do. There is no way you can beat cubic inches.
What I am surprised about is that the Cd is worse. I would have expected the longer car to be cleaner.
RE: I just saw official price of SLK55 AMG is $61220 and official 0-60mph is 4.9s.
It's only a few inches longer...
I've read of some times which are significantly better then 4.9, and 4.9 seconds is the 0-100 time for kilometers. Usually in miles you can shave off a hundreth of a second when going 0-60 (since 60mph is not 100km's, but less).
I think the main reason why the SLK 55 is only 360hp is due to Mercedes being afraid of it beating their 'top of the line' car such as the SL. Apparently, the 400hp version might come in a few years (and it might push as quick as 4.2 seconds for a 0-60).
It's just a bunch of marketing...

Thanks Brian, I have been getting ready to get something new...
Here's my tough choice:
SLK 55
vs C6 Coupe (Targa)
SLK: HP: 355 TQ: 376 Ht.: 50" Wt.: 3397 Trunk: 9.8 cu. ft. 6-speed manual: N/A Base price: $61,220 0-60: 4.9
C6: HP: 400 TQ: 400 Ht.: 49" Wt.: 3179 Trunk: 22.4 " " 6-speed manual: Std. Base price: $44,249 0-60: 4.2
I want a fast 2-seater, hardtop when closed, able to open when it's nice weather, able to carry 2 golf bags, proper manual transmission, be able to save nearly $17K on base price, NOT pay extra for metallic paint... wait a minute, it's NOT a tough choice at all. BTW, we'll keep the SLK 320 MT for a loooooooong time too.

You should sell your wife's(?) Mercedes, and just stick with "Made in America" vehicles for your family. Fits your attitude, ideology, and style much more.....
