RE: DO YOU WAVE AT OTHER SLK DRIVERS?

I found out that this gets more of a response from people: I pull up and catch their eye and just nod once or twice while I acknowledge their car. I do it with anyone in a Benz, not just an SLK. I usually get a nod back in return, more subtle. Sometimes, a few people have misunderstood and thought I wanted to race them so they either looked away or sped away which always makes me laugh.

Waving is for Corvettes... even then it's rare.

RE: Waving is for Corvettes... even then it's rare.

I used to wave at every SLK I saw and only had one driver wave back - a young oriental guy with an oriental passenger. I have noticed the following general pattern of people who openly show an interest in the car while I'm driving (most eager to most put off)

1. young black women
2. young other women
3. black men
4. white men over 40
5. young men driving 'normal' cars

The young white men in cameros, etc. look away, ESPECIALLY if their gal looks my way.

My wife's list is almost completely backwards of mine!

RE: DO YOU WAVE AT OTHER SLK DRIVERS?

Great question Death. When I have owned Porsches, I have noticed they almost always wave to each other. I am talking all of them, I remember an overzealous driver waving as he approached me during interstate traffic.

I have only had one incident where I and another SLK driver exchanged a greeting. During rush hour one day my car came to rest in a lane next to a SLK 32 who also had his top down. We looked at each other and laughed. We both said nice car and went about our way.

RE: DO YOU WAVE AT OTHER SLK DRIVERS?

When I drove Vettes we all waved, blinked lights or beeped the horn and there were about the same number (few) around as SLK's are now.

If all SLK owners would wave or something to each other it would add to the fun we get by driving these extreme fun machines!

I love mine more everytime I drive it - more than any car I've ever owned.

I think times have changed and people are much less friendly nowadays. A few SLK owners do wave or compliment mine in traffic and alot of CL and CLK drivers sneak long looks at lights.

Maybe people feel like they should be stand-offish because they drive a Benz?

RE: DO YOU WAVE AT OTHER SLK DRIVERS?

All the SLK drivers around here are too busy putting on their makeup to notice someone waving at them.
I'll wave to other ferrari drivers if i'm in dads ferrari though.

RE: Waving is for Corvettes... even then it's rare.

Hey this could be a whole new thread :) I would have a slightly different list:
1. 20's white men/bois (yes sorry most 20's are bois, no offense bois)
2. 30's white men
3. Asian women all ages (I have trouble gagin women ages anyway).
4. Bull dyke harley riders
5. Bitter old queens driving Toyotas/hondas/geo's =P

Then again my list might be biased where I spend most of my time. At work the SLK doesnt even get a second look ever, just another silver german car in the sea of em....

BTW oriental is a rug not a race :P FYI and NO I am not part of the PC police (see offensive comments before if u question that).
