tires. This car goes through tires like my kids through shoes.

I was checking out my tires today and it looks like they'll need replacing with a few thousand miles, especially the rears.

I replaced the first set at about 17,000 miles, now I've got 32k.

They are worn evenly but this seems high?
Anyone else having similiar tire wear?
Are you still running the standard " tires & wheels? You have to check the U.T.Q.G. number on the
tire, this is a three digit number followed by two letters. The range is usually between the low 100s and the high 300s, the higher the number the longer the tire will normally last. The lower the number the better adhesion to the road but it wears faster. It's a compromise of what you want longer wear or better contact to the road? Most tire shops will have a chart or know what numbers give what mileage.
By the way, what brand have you been using that only gives out 17,000 miles of life?
I got about 22K miles on my front tires. I have 28k on my rear tires and they need to be replaced soon. My tires are the Dunlop SP2000 on standard staggered layout. With more aggressive driving, I would have had to replace them sooner. So 17,000 is not too unusual.
My first pair were the 2000's and they lasted 24k miles but I was slipping and sliding all over the place because they were so bald. I looked at the tread wear rating and it was 240 for these tires. I got the 5000 series on the back now and the treadwear rating is 340, so the difference is substantial.
I have had my SLK320 for just over a year, using it ona good mixture of British roads, from motorways to country lanes. It was fitted with Pirelli P6000's. Rear tires needed replacing at 15,000 miles. I had to replace one front tire at 14,000, as I had hit a kerb in a car park, and damaged the side wall. The otherhas done 18,000 now and looks like it will last to 20,000.
Looks like your statement holds up
I'm having a 2006 SLK 350 model. I just learnt that I would need to change my rear tires even though my total mileage after 2 years were only 13,500 miles. Does it sound strange to you ? Does anyone have any suggestion(s) ? Thanks

Right question, wrong forum.....
Ultra High Performance and Maximum Performance tires wear rapidly, but give substantially more grip under high lateral loading...

Your statement sounds anticipatory, as if someone is telling you this is going to happen. Your dealer's service department, perhaps?
Replace the tires when they are worn, and not according to some arbitrary schedule designed to put $$$ in somebody's pocket.
