From what I get out of the situation, the manual is notchy and not that easy..

to shift. I have driven both, but not enough to condemn the stick. In a contest, I feel the auto is far more consistant and runs the engine to the limits without overreving or missing a shift.

Perhaps the long throw of the shifter and clutch are factors.

Maybe a combination of things...

1. M-B makes a very efficient automatic transmission.

2. The automatic's torque converter helps to provide more torque to the rear wheels during acceleration.

3. The manual is hard to shift fast.

thanks for the answers>>>
Im still in 2 minds whether to get a manual or Auto, i guess ill have to try both, but im tending towards the manual, mainly cos im in the UK and Autos arent really popular over here, so when it comes time to sell, i think a manula will be easier to sell/and or have a higher price - anyone any thoughts on this??? im not sure anyone on this BB is from the UK.
cheers
Why do you think the automatic is faster?

While I agree that the automatic is more consistent, I think that the fact you can drop the clutch with a manual, rev at 4000 before releasing the clutch, means that you will get a better launch and therefore a better time. If you read the fine print in R&T, C&D, etc, this is how they test the cars in their test. I don't recommend this as a general practice but I think you can at least keep up with the automatic.

You can stand on the brakes and pre-torque the automatic...

and get just as much out of it.
It's interesting though that the heavier automatic is as fast or even faster then the stick.
