It wasn't tough, but it's much easier after you do the first one (more...)
I used a plastic putty knife wrapped in a cloth to wedge between the housing and the mirror. On the TT there were 3 connection points, and once you get the first one to unsnap it's easier to get the others off. The biggest risk is that the OEM mirror will crack, and if you're not planning on reusing them, that's not a real problem (oh, I was forgetting about the 7 years ... ;-) ) Anyway, assuming you have heated mirrors, you just connect the wires and snap the new one in making sure not to stress any part of the mirror more than any other. As long as you're careful, it's easy to do; just don't force it. All this, of course, assumes the ones on the SLK are similiar to the TT. (I never changed the mirrors on my SLK, but now that I see the difference with the split mirrors I wouldn't hesitate for a minute to do it.)
