air intake

1992 sl300 24v lhd

next on my to do list which is getting smaller thank god it a fault code from pin 3 code 13 air intake temperature illogical can anyone point me in the right direction for location and what this actually does ie effect mpg or effects enginepower output ? any info would help me massively as a strating point

sensor is mounted on he air cleaner snorkel portion, should be pretty apparent, and yes it will affect mpg etc since engine can't compensate for the density of the air when adjusting mixture

if im interpreting air cleaner snorkel portion as either the air filter box of intake air tube i dont have any sencors there

I think on early cars it's behind the grill, on the intake. Later cars it was between the air filter and the engine.

hello again richard f seems you spend a lot of time here

am i right in thinking the sensor you are thinking of also supplys the instrument cluster temp read out ?? i remember reading something about that before ?
if it is the same one then i mat kill 2 bird with the same stone here, because the only time i have seen the temp read out working was when i had a slipping belt and the battery way dieing. allmost every warninig light in the car started randomly flashing thats the only time thr read out sparked to life for a few seconds

No the outside temp gauge is different. IAT is actually mounted in the intake.

Your outside temp probably just needs a bulb in the cluster.

i have power there it lights up orange just never displays a figure apart from that one time as the battery was dieing
i will take a look now at the intake but never seen anything there maybe its missing

had a look i cant see anything from the outside scoop thing all the way to the airfilter any have a photo to aid me

The intake air temperature sensor is locate on the side of the air filter housing.

bobterry99 thanks a lot i always wondered what that hole was for so looks like mine is missing i know im asking a lot here but i have a few spare plugs any chance of a look at the plug and sensor # sorry to ask so much but im in the desert the garages here wont touch mercs because 1 there skills are not up to standard and 2 parts are hard to get. So they see my car they just point blank say no
