I have a 2001 Sl600 with the 2 piece AMG wheels, 18x8.5F/18.10R +25/+25, Will an 18x8.5F with a +35 fit the front (without spacer)? The company I tried to order from is concerned they will not clear the front calipers. It's 10mm inboard from the stock wheels...
I saw on one of the R129 wheel sites (and there were like 900 wheel options over time) that a 17x8.5 E35 was listed, albeit requiring longer bolts. So I assumed the 18x8.5 ET35 would fit but was concerned when I got the email. Worst case, I'll pick up aluminum spacers.
Good point above. Otis USA can supply 12mm bolts with 14mm ball or cone seats, in pretty much any length. If they don't have the length you need, call them, they can cut them custom.
Man, you want to swap out those wheels? I know they're heavy but they look so sweet.
They are my favorite OEM wheel on any car, probably ever. However, the POs were neglectful and they have some curbing/clear coat peeling.
While there aren't many bright red V12 R129s running around, I like all my cars to feel like my own - and that usually includes wheels, a drop and exhaust. I'll be shelving the AMG's and have then refinished to new at some point.
I just put my 18x9 ET 30 Lorinsers on SL500
They fit, but front doesn't have much clearance.
Lorinsers have skinnier bolt holes, so I had to cut the bolts shorter.
Ok, and given your taste in cars and aircraft, I'd be curious to see what you have in mind for the exhaust. I'm torn with mine, actually thinking about electric cuttouts with supertrapps. The stock exhaust is in character with the refined nature of the car, but there are times when I want that "ripping canvas" sound.
Sorry about the drift. And just to add a data point, I have 17 x 8.5 35's on my 96 now and they clear the older calipers fine, and a test fit of the larger Brembos as well. They are mere TSW knockoffs of the 2 piece AMG style IV.
I did a simple muffler delete on the car the second day I had it. Perfect volume, no drone, cheap and easy. Also dropped like 35lbs off the back end (not that it matters in this car.) It sounds kind of muscle car-y... A set of equal length headers is what really unlocks these engine's sound, but doesn't fit the character of the car (and the gearbox).
My only gripe is the sound on upshifts... Its my first auto and it has the slow, lazy, econobox/bro truck automatic sound.
