Hi. I don t think photos will do it. I have two old ones and one new among them and the 'strap' sways the same in all three. No cracking sound until installed. Or worse , no cracking sound until a few days after reinstalling the door panel. I wish they were dated or that i had labelled them at least. Or if they were repairable with an injection of grease. Very annoying. Unless anyone has a magic way of deciphering?
The strap it is a little darker in color is the new factory strap I installed a week ago. Look at the plastic housing some of them have Dusty covering on them? Can you see inside and see you which ones have less grease?
We all learn by experience but this is a main reason why I do not like to take a part off until the new one has come.
One on the bottom is the new one I bought at the dealer.
exactly.. so when I replaced mine, I dug out the spray gun and painted them to match in "imperial red", of the orignal ones in the car that I removed, along with the headlight trim w/o the wiper holes and the late model door handles in body color.
My "new" ones were black while the W210's were gold
These can be serviced .I will have to look in to doing the old ones i have removed from my doors. It means tapping down the retainer on the end ,the one that has a welded nut , so you can pull the part out with the balls on .You need a good vice to hold it Mind the bearings as they can shoot out ...Once you have it out the balls top and bottom can be cleaned up .In situ they have seals on the ball bearing and these stops you from getting grease, or oil in there to stop it cracking as you open the door.. Untill i foud the way to repair them ,i thought it could not be done. And i purchased 4 from ebay .. But there is a way to fix everything.: Also mark the strap so you know how to put it back..smile
That is brilliant - I must take an old one apart for a look.
Thank you
