Morning all, I will be changing out the spheres in my 95 SL600 tomorrow and wondered if there was a good spot to release the pressure from so the hydro would run more downward? Perhaps just at the sphere itself.
The fluid is under pressure, so it does want to leave the system in a hurry.
I don't know if the MY 95 has the ADS II system, but there are 2 pressure bleed points. One at the front American driver's side behind the front of the wheelhouse side engine cover. The other is at the passenger rear where the single rear main oil line forks to either sphere.
Just like bleeding a brake. Attach a small hose to the fitting and direct the open end of the hose to a quart sized container, then carefully crack open the fitting.
Work on one end of the car at a time (the systems are separate) and make sure the car is supported because it will settle to the tops of the tires. The suspension springs in an ADS car merely modify oscillations of the body, they don't hold the car up by ANY stretch of the imagination.
The fronts are easier (IMHO) as the rears require the removal of most of the trunk components. Plan 4 hours per pair and make sure you have the proper replacement oil on hand.
Thanks for the responses guys, really appreciate. Popped open the drivers front sphere yesterday and let it slowly drain, the car is on jacks because of a bunch of other maintenance work I am doing. Finished the spheres and will put her back on the ground tonight making sure to keep plenty of hydro in the reservoir.
The next job is the change out the two idler pulley's, the coolant pump, and the drive belt. She is a continuous labor of love.
Michael
