Yes, thief. And a R129 parts thief at that.
Went to the local mall today, parked the R129 along and alone the back row...we always back into a spot/slot....away from those who seem to thinks it's OK to bang their car doors into others...
anyway...
come out of the mall and my wife and I are walking toward our car and we're looking at it and something just does not look right...could not quite figure out what...until I got closer...and I'm looking at it over and over...scratching my head and then my wife says....look at the turn signal cover! It's amber! Someone...swapped their turn-signal cover with mine!!!!! :frown
I had 2 clear turn signal covers for years and years and now I have one clear turn signal cover and one clear/amber cover! Some yahoo took my driver's side clear cover and replaced it with a clear/amber cover!
I am serious as a freaking heart attack!
I can't figure out how they got my car open to pop the hood until I remembered that the turn signals can be removed by just pulling them straight out.
I did call the cops and mall security...they thought it was funny...I didn't.
Both are reviewing video footage to possibly see the bonehead thief...Not too long ago....someone also stole my GPS cap/cover on the trunk lid...no...it did not come loose as it was on the trunk when I closed the lid...I remembered seeing it...airport parking lot.
Anyone else besides me have items/parts removed from your car?
I cannot remove mine without releasing the lever from under the hood.
But also look on the Bright side, the one he left you is worth more than the one he took. :smile
Sounds like a decent guy most likely a member here, probably reading this thread as we speak :angel
I have a spare, boxed, new pair, of the quality Magneti Marelli (Bosch) clear/ frosted. That may be up for sale shortly.
same here on releasing the light. mine snaps into a notch at the back. only way to remove it is to open the hood and push in on the latch to allow it to move forward. Now if it wasn't snapped in, then it could be pulled out. but when not snapped in, it looks obvious. sticks out in front of the headlight.
but, at least the clear ones are pretty readily available on ebay for very reasonable prices with quick shipping.
Many years ago I had a Renault LeCar with original factory mag wheels. One day returning from work I found my LeCar no longer had its mag wheels but plain old
steel wheels. The mag wheels used a different lug bolt than the steel wheels but the thief was too stupid to swap those also. Neither type of wheel could be properly secured with the wrong bolts.
When the University of Nebraska plays at home....the towns population increases by around 100,000! The football stadium holds the record for the most sell outs....over 90,000 each game...traffic is....crazy...and I have seen 20 or so R129's on game weekends....so either it's an out of towner looking for the right opportunity or someone local....locally...maybe 10 R129's.
And actually...the cops thought...perhaps you made a mistake and don't remember the lens you had...until my wife showed them a picture of the car taken a few days prior showing the clear lens on the driver's side!
Just for the heck of it...I tried removing the passenger's side and I was able to just pull it out with a firm pull without having to open the hood.
Nothing amazes me anymore about people/thief's, etc...
I have seen well educated, prominent, salt of the earth types get arrested for stealing, drugs and what have you. People you'd never ever figure would do something like that and people who would swear up and down that...they'd never ever do such a thing...and I have known and I am sure you have known also...someone, a close friend, family member, pastor...who has been caught doing the dirty...
but to stoop so low as to swipe a person's clear lens....nothing is sacred!
Unless the mall security cameras have something tangible..probably won't catch who done it and I can't very well approach any R129 driver around town and confront them if they have clear lens.
So...any of you out their have a spare lens...clear or amber...we could swap!
So the coppers thought it was funny, nice. Bet they would not think so if it were one of their cars -- no doubt would spend millions of $ to catch the perp.
that is insane
To Answer your question in the first post - years ago, I went to the mall and saw a bunch of young youths in a 190e admiring my 260e's wheels. They circled the parking lot about 3 times. I decided to leave the mall and go home
People today have no morals or class.
