These are usually a bit beyond the average DIY. If it is only reverse which is gone it maybe the seal or valve is at fault for that gear. The sensible thing to do would be to get a tranny specialist to do a diagnose for you.

i dont know how much it is in nevada but here in california the dealer will diagnose stuff for $160. its worked wonders and thats what i recommend $160 is nothing for the expert opinion. ive had some terrible issues myself and by talking to the dealer it has solved things no one else could figure out... it took a few times too. but im sure this isnt as complex as the issues i experienced. plus by going to the dealer and spending the $160 it qualifies you for free towing for i believe a year or 18 months i forgeet. so its a double plus in case you ever break down. ive towed my car to the dealer many times for free using that. no ideas on my behalf of what it could be though. sorry.

yeah I have never owned a car in my long life that was so much fun to drive and ran so long with very minimal expense.I was always a porsche guy but for the last 15 years I have become a R129 kind of guy.The best value I ever had in a car. Will never drive any other vehicle.

Once the reverse go's thats a sign the trans is worn, most likely you need a replacement or rebuild, one of the best places to get one is Sun-valley trans.
rebuilt remanufactured mercedes benz automatic transmissions
they specialize in Mercedes transmissions
first sign of trans or reverse going out is ,lag time when you shift in reverse,my 300SE was the opposite, all of a sudden lost forward gears but still had reverse?
