Concave Wheels on R129 SL Roadsters?

OK - So I'm looking at Wheel-Options for my '99 SL, as my choice for a Silver Arrow type wheel has Crashed and Burned ( They are unavailable as well as apparently impractical ).

So I decided to take my wheel-search in a new direction..

I was checking out some DeTomaso Panteras, and was taken by the "look" of their deep concave wheels as they complement the car..and I thought:

" How about a set of Concave wheels for my SL..?'

Maybe somerthing like these Concave wheels.. ( Forgiato, Stance and Niche; in order )

Not a R129, but close enough to get "the Idea"...

So, what do you guys think..?

Anyone here run a set of Concave wheels on their R129s..?

Yeah...Glad you brought that up, because on second thought, I was thinking along sort of those same lines...

Well, there's always the "Fallback" Position:

Mandrus Arrow Wheels

Concave Wheels on R129s..?

Wheels is probably going to be the toughest choice you make. When I was making mine I looked everywhere. I thought of the concave but decided they weren't era correct for the R129.

What I like to see on the R129 is a staggered set with some lips on the wheels. For me it was a toss up between the wheels that came on the late SLs, the 2 pc BBS wheels made for AMG that came on the late SL600s, and BBS LM. Since I was having difficulty locating the stock AMGs I went to the BBSs.

Out of the pics you posted I'd probably go with plan b.

Mercedes aren't for people who want to have one, it's for people who can have one.

If you like that kind of look, go with the Works Meister S1R.^^^... It have very nice lip & strong too....

Horsepower: enough power to go from point A to point B
Torque: enough to get the car moving

0-60 mph: not in a rush
0-1/4 mile: about 5 minutes @ 2mph because no need to showoff

Pictures of my SL collection & Pictures of my S Class ride

My favorite topic, What kind of watch do you guys wear with your Benz...??

I like the look of the Vellano VKK-C Wheel

Probably be a Real PITA to keep clean, though.... and I think also that it gives the car a look that reminds me of a Wedding Cake

Funny you should mention these. When the AMG Silver Arrow wheel proved to be made of Unobtainium, I searched for other wheels to find something with a similar Style Characteristic..So I did look at the Work wheels Meister S1 models - And of that model version, I liked the look of their S1 / 3-Piece wheel:

The Meister S1 as seen worn by some of our relatives:

But I have since moved on, and now want to keep the look a bit more simplified - A somewhat Concave wheel, Five Spokes, no Rivets and a Semi-gloss to Matte finish. either Black or Charcoal

Yeah - the more I think about it, the more the Mandrus Arrow ( Matte Black )seems to be cropping up to be the top choice for my SL.

After all, Mandrus are a dedicated MBZ wheel production, so I would not have to hassle with getting the correct PCD and funkadelic Offsets or deal with Hub Centric issues -

And because a Matte Black wheel on the black tires makes for a slightly overwhelming visual impact against a White car...

I was thinking that maybe a thin, White or Dull-Silver pinstripe along the perimeter of the rims might be just what's needed to break up the monochromatic overtones of these wheels and tie it all together....

And so on to the last item of choice, which will be to choose between 18" or 19" diameter wheels..( staggered, of course )

For a daily driver, I think that 18" would make more sense, comfort-wise.
