Post the results of the test so we can figure out which limit was exceeded and by how much. The variances on the test results will point to which part of the emission system needs fixing.

Yep same here, and I apologize for not reading the thread title correctly. I guess you could see if your mechanic would do a little mickey mousing for you to get the car to pass. Good luck!
Additional background on the car history, mileage, had it passed before in Nevada or other state if you brought it in.
My 300SL was failing in California with similar numbers when I got it. Fixing vacuum leaks on various connection points on intake manifold improved the numbers some for the first test that failed when I tested in Virginia. The head gasket leak was the primary culprit that once fixed was able to pass.
good thing we dont have emissions in florida... if my car was registered in chicago im sure id have some issues.. but what is the cutout date for emissions anyways? Because my 66 mustang is still registered in chicago and i never had to do emissions on it.. is it 25 years? or when the car becomes antique or something? im sure it varies from state to state

My 1991 300 SL did not pass after the 'mechanic' fooled around with the mixture adjustment. NO was too high. The engine needs to be in a 50% "duty cycle". I was able to borrow an Oscilloscope and adjusted the mixture until the square wave was even. Voila! it passed.
But in your case it's high CO and HC. Maybe the catalytic converter is shot.
