I am not sure about BJ but Costco does not sell 0W-40 so ...

Actually I had ordered another batch but later canceled because of the "expiration" warning. I called the Exxon Mobil head quarter (they are only 5 minutes away from my parents) and they said Mobil 1 had 5 years shelf life. I am shopping for a G-AMG so if I get one, I will use up the oil in no time

My MB dealer only charges me $49.99 for Mobil 1 oil changes (they have collected so much money from me earlier in the years so this is a bait to lure me in so they could 'rape' me more). With the help from this site and similar sites, I could do a lot more DYI now. Although it is actually cheaper to do oil changes at my MB dealer, I'd still do it myself because "no one works on your cars better than you do"

wow, lots of oil to stock up on...

I change mine every 2000-2500 miles on my 90' 500SL. Don't want to use synthetic.

Changed it twice now since my ownership with Shell Rotella 15w-40 with what I find 'the perfect jug". 9.5L all in one jug, $37 at Walmart. almost used the whole thing last time when I used a fluid extractor on the oil pan, and filter housing.

Hi RRousta:

As a former Shell employee for most of my career, and a current owner of an SL500, PLEASE DON'T USE ROTELLA T 15W-40 in your Mercedes.

Shell's Rotella T is a wonderful product for non-catalytic exhaust applications. I use it in my Kubota's front-end loader / backhoe, and in my lawn tractors.

However, using Rotella T in your M-B will plug up your catalyst bed, causing reduced performance and big $$$ to replace the catalytic converter.

The best oil you should be using is MOBIL 1- Full Synthetic, High Mileage 10W-40....... that's correct, you are hearing this from a Shell man!

This particular MOBIL 1 oil contains extra anti-wear additives for added protection, and seal conditioner to help prevent leaks and reduce oil consumption. It's also the recommended oil by M-B for the older SL-series engines.

It's also fairly cheap to buy...... I buy it at WalMart for $24.97 for a 5-quart jug.

Pic is attached should you wish to use this particular type of Mobil 1.

Hope this helps. God Bless, Arctic.

i always read your comments as an advertisement. haha. full of facts on some certain thing.

i just get MB to put in my oil at the dealer. i swear dealer prices are cheaper then when my mum had to bring her 82 300CD turbo diesel in for repairs when i was younger.

Thank you, M-B-The-Best:

I have found that if pictures are used to summarize what is said with words, communications tend to be enhanced. Guess that is why PowerPoint was so successful.

God Bless, Arctic
