How do you repair torn Tonneau Cover Vinyl?

I am looking at a 1996 SL600 that has a Tonneau Cover that has ripped/torn vinyl at the stitching. Is this a usual occurance? Is it usually recovered by an upholstry shop or does it have to be replaced by a new factory part?

Here are a few pics:

That's one of those things that an upholstery shop can do easily. I had one made for my 107 and installed it myself. I'm sure you can order a new one from Benz, but I'd bet it would cost 5 times as much. Fleabay is another place. Most of the time an entire hatch cover with upholstery is under a couple of hundred bucks !

Coupled with the engine troubles from the other post, a pattern of poor upkeep is starting to emerge and poor upkeep on a SL600 is a serious problem.

If you are considering this vehicle for purchase, you may want to pass for a better example.

That's kind of the way that I am leaning. I just found a 1999 with 53,000 miles in immaculate condition with a hard top for $15K. I have a feeling that is a better deal in the long run. 3 years newer with 34,000 less miles and in great condition - sounds like a no-brainer to me....

WOW! That sounds cheap! A little better than I had feared. And I didn't want a typical recover without the stitching. I will give it a look.
